What documents are needed to leave Spain by car and travel within the country
During the holiday season, many Spaniards go on trips around the country or abroad. For this purpose, it is most convenient to use a car, which allows you to change the route on the go and stop for rest.
However, travelling by car requires a number of documents, without which problems can arise both in Spain and abroad. USA News has provided a list of the required documents.
The countries of the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein) allow you to drive a car with a valid Spanish driving licence.
If your permit is about to expire, you can extend it three months before it does. However, it should be remembered that a temporary driving permit pending obtaining a licence is only valid within Spain.
In addition, you should have your car registration certificate, which contains the technical data of the vehicle and its owner, as well as your ITV card and the corresponding sticker.
If you are planning to travel outside the EU, you must have an international permit. This is a valid document approved by the United Nations for driving in any country in the world for one year. It can be obtained directly from the office of the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT). To do this, you need to provide a valid driving licence, an identity card with a new photo, and pay a fee of €10.10.
It's also worth remembering that Spain has agreements with countries outside the European Union, so no international permit is required to travel through their territory. Most of these countries are in South America.
You also need to take care of a green card in advance. It certifies that the car is insured and makes it easier to transport it in case of an accident.
