Royal Caribbean suspends cooperation with Labadee Resort
Royal Caribbean, one of the largest shipping companies in the world, will not send its ships to Labadee, a private resort 206 kilometres north of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. The reason for the suspension was the escalation of the crisis related to crimes committed by local gangs.
The company noted that they are closely following the news in Haiti, and therefore will carefully adjust their routes for the safety of passengers and crew. This was reported in Dominican Today.
Royal Caribbean said that in case of changes to this route, the company's customers will be notified in 3 days. Given the circumstances, the company offered tourists compensation in the form of a stopover on the Turks and Caicos Islands or an extra day at sea on board the cruise.
Currently, the crisis in Haiti, which was caused by a wave of street protests for the resignation of acting Prime Minister and President Ariel Henry, continues. In addition, unrest and attacks involving local armed gangs continue in Port-au-Prince.
