New Direct Flights to La Palma Expand UK–Canaries Access

Regular direct flights from the United Kingdom to La Palma will begin in 2026. Jet2 has confirmed that routes from Manchester Airport will start operating on 3 April, while services from London Stansted will commence on 26 October. Flights will depart twice a week, every Monday and Friday, and continue year-round. This marks the first time scheduled nonstop connections between the UK and La Palma will be available to travellers.

Until now, visitors from the UK typically needed to transfer through mainland Spain or other Canary Islands to reach La Palma. With the introduction of direct flights, both time and transfers will be reduced. London Stansted will serve as the only departure point in southern England offering this route. The flight schedule allows for short visits or longer stays, including travel during quieter periods of the year.

In Santa Cruz de La Palma, visitors can enter Plaza de España, a central square surrounded by administrative buildings and often used as a meeting point by locals. A few streets away, at the intersection of Calle Anselmo Pérez and O’Daly, a covered stairway connects the upper and lower levels of the city, providing passage through densely built residential areas that overlook the harbour.

In the inland town of Los Llanos de Aridane, on La Palma’s western side, Avenida Doctor Fleming is a traffic-free stretch where people stroll past small cafés and take breaks on benches. Locals use it as an everyday shortcut between shops, making it more of a practical passage than a tourist sight. Nearby, an open paved area known as Plaza de Los Cuatro Caminos marks the crossing of several streets and is frequently used by residents for informal events or shaded rest during the day.

These flights simplify access to La Palma without changing the island’s slower rhythm. They might suit travellers who prefer to stay away from busy resort areas and look for more low-key environments. Although route options remain limited, having a fixed direct flight opens the island to visitors who previously found it hard to reach. Travellers used to more developed islands may also encounter different standards in transport and available facilities.
