Mistakes that make plane tickets more expensive: secrets from a former flight attendant
A former flight attendant shares the best ways to save money on your next airplane trip. His two top tips will help you avoid making costly mistakes again. He also explains why premium class fares are sometimes lower than economy class seats.
Bobby Laurie, a travel expert who worked as a flight attendant for US Airways and Virgin America, discusses the best ways to save money without resorting to risky tactics such as skip-plagiarism. This was reported by the-sun.com.
This practice of booking a connecting flight but missing the flight to the final destination has led to many airlines canceling tickets for those who do not make it to the connecting flights.
Instead, Laurie advises against multiple flight searches, especially on the same device or network. This is because airlines can increase prices based on search traffic for a particular route or destination.
"If their system detects that a particular flight is of interest, prices may go up the more you search, assuming you are interested and willing to pay a higher price," he says.
Laurie added that passengers can actually use this dynamic pricing strategy to save money. According to him, this can be best achieved by focusing on cheaper premium class tickets rather than the cheapest economy fares.
Too many people searching for economy flights can cause the price to suddenly rise.
"I've seen many times where first class or premium economy was cheaper than an economy ticket," said Laurie.
He also advises being cautious about spending money on unnecessary extras that can quickly add up, such as refundable fares. You may not receive a full cash refund, but you will receive credit for future travel and save money in the process.
The biggest exception is if you book a ticket with an ultra-low-cost carrier.
