Istanbul Airport recognized as the Airport of the Year for the 4th time in a row
The huge Istanbul Airport was named Airport of the Year and received the Air Transport Awards for 2024. It won the title for the fourth time in a row. The airport operator IGA announced the news on Monday.
Earlier, Istanbul Airport was named Airport of the Year by Air Transport News in 2021, 2022 and 2023. These awards are presented in 14 different categories. The winners are chosen by a vote of 4,000 people, DailySabah writes.
Selahattin Bilgen, acting CEO of Istanbul IGA Airport, said at the award ceremony in Greece on Sunday that IGA was proud to receive the award.
He added that standing out among all the international airports in the world and receiving this title once again demonstrates the commitment of all airport teams to operational excellence.
"In order to offer our guests an enjoyable travel experience, we set ourselves higher standards in terms of efficiency, sustainability, innovation and passenger satisfaction," he said.
"This award is also a testament to our sincere determination in the practices we are implementing as industry pioneers. We thank the Air Transport Awards team for this valuable honour," he added.
Kostas Iastrou, general director and CEO of Air Transport News, said that Istanbul Airport has proven to be a resilient and innovative aviation hub despite the challenges the industry has faced since the pandemic.
He noted that the airport has rapidly reached pre-pandemic passenger traffic levels and increased airline diversity to become a leading global hub, and added that this award reflects the dedicated work of the airport staff and the pleasant travel experience they provide to their guests.
