Finland’s Airports to Operate Normally During Peak July Travel After Strike Threat Lifted

Air travel in Finland is set to continue without disruption after a last-minute agreement was reached between the Finnish Aviation Union (IAU) and the employers' association Palta. On July 13, 2025, both parties accepted a proposal from the National Conciliator, putting an end to a prolonged labour dispute. Previously planned strikes on five days in July have been cancelled under the new deal, ensuring airport services continue without interruption.
The strikes had been planned for July 16, 18, 21, 23, and 25. If carried out, they would have affected critical airport operations, including:
- Ground handling
- Technical maintenance
- Customer service support
Effective until January 15, 2027, the new agreement updates the conditions of employment for staff across the aviation industry. Wage updates consistent with broader labour market trends are part of the deal, helping to prevent further interruptions at airports.
Passengers can now feel confident that their flights will operate according to schedule. The initial strike threat had raised concerns about possible disruptions, particularly for tourists transiting through Finland or beginning summer holidays within the country. The aviation sector, which includes Finnair and other service providers, can now focus on delivering uninterrupted operations, easing pressure on both domestic and international itineraries during a critical time for travel.
The deal is especially favorable for visitors aiming to explore Finland’s summer attractions like its archipelagos, lake areas, and remote northern landscapes. It also ensures stable service for travellers flying onward to other parts of Europe and Asia. With airport operations back to normal, travellers can expect fewer last-minute schedule changes, reducing the chance of missed connections and delays.
Sincere thanks to our customers for their patience during this prolonged labour dispute. With the negotiation result covering Finnair’s Technical Services, Kitchen, airport customer service, and many other companies operating in the airport area, we can now focus on operating our flights during this important summer travel season with the reliability customers expect from us.
This development underlines the importance of timely conflict resolution within essential public services, especially during busy travel periods. Travelers depending on flights in July can now expect smoother trips and less uncertainty thanks to the resolution of the labour dispute. As Finland approaches its busiest travel period, dependable air services will play a crucial role in keeping passengers moving safely and efficiently across the region and beyond.
