The most popular destination in Asia in 2024: where tourists are heading
Tripadvisor has predicted which destinations will be the most desirable among travelers this year. According to the publication, Tokyo will become one of the most popular cities in 2024.
The tourist boom in the Japanese capital can be attributed to the opening of borders, which took place in October 2022. Four years after the start of the pandemic, Asia is showing a peak in tourist interest for the first time, ForbesIndia reports.
According to TripAdvisor, a travel service that analyzed the content of millions of comments, as well as changes in hotel and restaurant ratings, Asia will be central to many vacation plans in 2024.
What's happening in Japan
By the summer of 2023, more than four million tourists had taken up the challenge and conquered Japan's sacred Mount Fuji. However, the concern of Japanese authorities about the possible burden of this historic site leads to discussions about the introduction of entry quotas.
According to statistics, 10.7 million visitors visited Japan from January to June alone. This is more than in the pre-pandemic period of 2019.
At the same time, recent events, such as the earthquake on the Noto Peninsula and the incident with the fire of the Japan Airlines Airbus A350 at Haneda Airport, leave questions open. Travelers' attention to Mount Fuji may be weakened based on the reaction to these accidents.
It is noted that 8 Asian destinations are in the top 10 most popular destinations.
What is chosen instead of Tokyo
According to the Tripadvisor report, in addition to Tokyo, the top ten also includes Vietnam, thanks to Halong Bay and the city of Sapa, providing unique opportunities for trekking in the mountains. Besides, traveling to South Korea, Seoul, and the Philippines with the island of Palawan is also an interesting option.
