In September 2025, Air France-KLM and Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) confirmed a new stage in their cooperation with the expansion of a transatlantic codeshare agreement. Under this arrangement, Air France will place its flight code on selected nonstop services operated by SAS between Scandinavia and the United States. The agreement was announced as part of the carriers’ ongoing partnership, which has already included cooperation on European routes and long-haul services. Both airlines have highlighted the practical nature of this step.

The updated codeshare will cover routes departing from three main Scandinavian airports: Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Oslo. Passengers departing from these hubs will gain access to a wider set of nonstop services to major U.S. destinations. Specifically, the agreement applies to:

  • From Copenhagen (CPH): Atlanta (ATL), Boston (BOS), Chicago (ORD), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), New York–Newark (EWR), New York–JFK (JFK), San Francisco (SFO), Seattle (SEA), Washington, D.C. (IAD).
  • From Stockholm (ARN): New York–Newark (EWR), Miami (MIA).
  • From Oslo (OSL): New York–Newark (EWR), New York–JFK (JFK).

Tickets are now available through official airline channels and travel agencies.

This agreement modifies the structure of travel connections between Scandinavia and the United States. When booking transatlantic flights operated by SAS under the Air France code, passengers can create a single combined itinerary instead of managing separate tickets. This often reduces complications in the event of delays, missed connections, or schedule changes. It further broadens the selection of direct flights connecting Scandinavian cities with U.S. destinations. This allows travelers to save important time, whether their journey is for business or leisure purposes.

The cooperation also extends into the airlines’ loyalty systems, which is relevant for frequent travelers. SAS flights included in the codeshare will now earn Air France-KLM Flying Blue miles and experience points (XP). These benefits can be used to earn status and redeem points, although availability may limit the latter. This means that travelers who regularly cross the Atlantic from Scandinavia will have more opportunities to accumulate and redeem points, in line with the loyalty programs already in place on both airlines' networks.

The announcement represents another step in the gradual integration of SAS into Air France-KLM’s commercial ecosystem following its entry into the SkyTeam alliance in 2024. Although the short-term advantage is access to more routes, the long-term effect is that travelers from Scandinavia are likely to depend more on SkyTeam airlines for their intercontinental journeys. In the transatlantic market, this development underscores increased consolidation and closer cooperation among top airlines, providing passengers with more consistent services while shaping a market controlled by fewer major airline alliances.
