Train services between Verona Porta Nuova and Vicenza will be fully suspended from early morning August 4 until May 5, 2025, due to major infrastructure upgrades. Travelers heading to this region are advised to consider alternative transportation while the suspension is in effect. The service halt is linked to ongoing construction of a high-speed rail line intended to improve the speed and reliability of journeys connecting the two locations.

The extensive works include:

  • Reconstruction of platforms at Montebello Vicentino and Lonigo
  • Construction of a new pedestrian underpass
  • Modernization of electric traction systems
  • Replacement of nine switches in San Bonifacio
  • Adjustment of track elevation and alignment
  • Preparatory demolition at Vicenza station for the high-speed underpass
  • Canopy repairs and vegetation clearing at multiple locations

These upgrades are part of a broader effort to enhance the rail line’s efficiency and reliability.

This disruption will make it more difficult to reach several outdoor destinations that are usually accessible by regional trains. Near Lonigo, visitors often travel to Villa Pisani Bonetti, a historic countryside estate surrounded by walking paths. The Terme di Giunone water park in Caldiero, a favorite summer destination for families, could become harder to reach during the rail closure. The beautiful vineyard trail Sentiero delle Scalette in Montebello Vicentino is among the locations likely affected by the disruption.

Limited rail service may also impact access to open-air spaces near other stations. The Valle del Chiampo nature reserve west of San Bonifacio is known for its quiet hiking trails and picnic areas. The temporary suspension of train services is likely to reduce the number of visitors to Parco dell’Amicizia, a well-known park close to Vicenza station. Cyclists planning to use the Ciclopista della Riviera Berica, a well-known bike route that starts near the rail line, should plan alternative connections.

Though this disruption falls during peak holiday season, the long-term goal is a more efficient and modern rail link between Verona and Vicenza. The project aims to improve train speed, reduce travel times, and increase service reliability across the region. Passengers are encouraged to keep up with official announcements, plan for alternative transportation, and anticipate longer travel times this August.
