This September, the city of Stirling will welcome visitors to the 13th Bloody Scotland International Crime Writing Festival. The festival, starting on Friday the 13th, will be a significant part of Stirling's 900th anniversary celebrations.

Running from September 13th to 15th, the festival features a variety of events designed to appeal to both crime fiction fans and travelers. Highlights include the Friday 13th Fright Night, The Wickedest Link, Karaoke at the Coo, and The True Crime Walking Tour. These events provide unique ways to explore the city while enjoying the festival's offerings.

The opening reception at The Golden Lion Hotel will present the McIlvanney Prize and The Bloody Scotland Debut Prize, followed by a procession led by the Stirling & District Schools Pipe Band. This event will set the tone for a weekend filled with literary celebrations.

The festival lineup includes prominent authors such as Elly Griffiths, Imran Mahmood, Frank Gardner, Chris Brookmyre, Janice Hallett, and Irvine Welsh. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with these writers and participate in discussions about their work.

For those interested in the craft of writing, the festival offers several events. The Pitch Perfect event at Central Library, which includes a £1000 prize, and the Crime in the Spotlight initiative provide platforms for aspiring writers to showcase their talent. Additionally, a new event, How To Get Published, will offer insights from industry experts on the publishing process.

The festival begins at 3pm on Friday, September 13th, with sessions featuring JD Kirk and Rachel Abbott at the Albert Halls. It will conclude at 1:30pm on Sunday, September 15th, with Chris Brookmyre and Stuart Turton. Alan Bett, Head of Literature and Publishing at Creative Scotland, emphasized the festival's role in nurturing new voices in crime writing. Festival Director Bob McDevitt expressed optimism for a memorable weekend despite the challenges faced by festivals this year.

Tickets for the festival program are already available at Bloody Scotland website. Those unable to attend in person can purchase a £50 digital pass to access 15 events online, including the Opening Reception and Prize Ceremony, or individual events for £5 each.
