A new direct air route now connects London Gatwick with the island of Sal in Cape Verde, operated by easyJet three times a week. This marks the airline’s first regular service to a destination in sub-Saharan Africa. Flights operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for a year-round service between this Atlantic island group, west of Africa famous for its long hours of sun and growing popularity amongst European visitors.

Alongside single flights, easyJet holidays also offer complete holiday packages for travellers. These include return flights, hotel stays, airport transfers, and 23kg of checked luggage per person. Prices for holiday packages start at £600 per traveller, while standalone tickets begin at £129.99. The service intends to enable a more budget-friendly and convenient alternative to traditional long-haul beach destinations especially when it's winter and people demand their sunshine escapes.

The new route for UK holidaymakers drastically cuts both the time and hassle of getting to a destination that previously needed stopovers or higher-cost flights. Cape Verde offers warm weather throughout the year, making it especially attractive during colder seasons in Europe. With the launch of this new service, users can now travel to a unique dream destination and cultural hotspot without the high expense and logistical challenges of long haul flights.

In addition to being affordable, the easyJet link provides more flexibility in travel. It has become easier for travellers seeking adventure or relaxation to access Sal's beach, water sports and their unique Creole culture. Tourism industry is changing and there is increasing call for places that offer authenticity with comfort — Cape Verde seems to be occupying that sweet spot, and the new route could help cultivate off the beaten path travel done right, while still being easy and safe.

Tourists are increasingly looking for destinations that combine cultural depth, environmental diversity and price-responsiveness. The new access options of Sal may harmonize with those preferences, which eventually may make sub-Saharan connections more accessible in future. For travellers eager to explore something different, Cape Verde is no longer a distant dream — it’s a direct flight away.
