Air Canada Maintains Flights and Expense Support for Travelers

Air Canada has confirmed that recent labour disruptions affected travel for passengers scheduled between August 15 and August 23, 2025. Flight attendants represented by CUPE voted against the proposed new contract yet the airline stated that all Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge flights will continue as planned. There will be no strike or lockout which allows travelers to maintain their schedules. Air Canada acknowledged the impact on travelers and apologized for the difficulties experienced throughout this period.
To support affected travelers, Air Canada has expanded its reimbursement and refund options. Passengers whose flights were cancelled while away from home may now claim coverage for reasonable expenses including:
- Accommodations for overnight stays
- Meals during the disruption
- Other necessary costs incurred due to the cancellation
Working together with the current Flexible Rebooking program, these measures help travelers who could not be rebooked promptly or faced additional expenses.
Passengers affected by the disruption receive clearer guidance on available support. Those eligible can submit claims through the Reimbursement Assistance Labour Disruption page including receipts and a brief explanation of costs incurred. The policy guarantees reimbursement for reasonable personal expenses and allows flexibility for alternative travel, including flights on other carriers under certain conditions. Travelers are able to complete their journeys with fewer delays while managing unexpected costs.
Flexible Rebooking rules provide additional support for passengers arranging alternative travel. Eligible conditions include choosing flights in the same or lower cabin, departing within five days of the cancelled flight, and traveling between the same origin and destination with the same companions. The airline encourages selecting the most economical options that prioritize timely arrival at the intended destination. These rules provide a clear framework for handling disruptions and help passengers plan with more certainty.
Air Canada has put in place measures to sustain flight operations while providing passengers with guidance and support. By clearly outlining reimbursement and rebooking procedures travelers gain a better understanding of their rights and available options. Passengers can now navigate recent labour disruptions with clearer guidance, understanding available support and measures to reduce the effects of cancelled or delayed flights.
