Travel enthusiasts have something to look forward to as new bus services are set to connect Slovakia and Hungary, making cross-border travel more accessible and convenient. Representatives from the Banská Bystrica Region and Nógrád County announced this development during a meeting at the County Hall of Nógrád in Salgótarján on Wednesday. The meeting included officials from the Hungarian transport company Volánbusz and the integrated transport company of Banská Bystrica.

These new routes will link key towns in Hungary, including Balassagyarmat, Ipolytarnóc, Salgótarján, and Cered in Nógrád, as well as Bánrév in Borsod County. On the Slovakian side, the buses will connect Rimavská Sobota, Lučenec, Veľký Krtíš, and Tornaľa. This initiative was shared with the public during a press conference following the meeting.

The public transport system between the regions is expected to be fully developed within the next two years, with the first services potentially starting next spring. Although specific details regarding the frequency and cost of these services are still being worked out, the anticipation among travelers is already building.

Ondrej Lunter, head of the County Council of Banská Bystrica Region, stated that both regions would finance their respective parts of the project. A budget suitable for both municipalities is necessary as the operation is expected to be loss-making initially. He pointed out that these regions have a long-standing connection, historically disrupted by the Trianon border, which impacted travel, trade, and personal connections.

Nándor Skuczi, president of the Nógrád County Assembly, highlighted that the main goal is to strengthen economic, trade, social, cultural, and tourist links. He emphasized that improving transport infrastructure is crucial to achieving these objectives.

For travelers, these new bus services will offer a seamless and efficient way to explore both regions, unlocking new cultural experiences and travel opportunities. Whether you're a history buff, a nature enthusiast, or a casual tourist, the enhanced connectivity will make cross-border adventures more appealing and convenient.
