Wuxi Shuofang International Airport will suspend operations from 10:10 a.m. on April 24 until 6:00 p.m. on April 27, 2025. The temporary closure is part of planned reconstruction and infrastructure upgrades, according to the airport’s official announcement. All local and international flights will be suspended at this time. The airport will issue a separate notice once flight operations resume after the completion of works.

China Eastern Airlines, one of the key operators at Wuxi Shuofang, has confirmed that its services involving the airport will be paused for the full duration of the shutdown. Travellers with bookings on affected dates are advised to closely monitor their flight status, check for text notifications, and plan ahead. To reduce the risk of complications or unexpected delays, the airport recommends that passengers adjust their travel arrangements in advance.

The closure is expected to significantly impact passengers, especially those connecting through Wuxi or relying on it for access to Jiangsu province. With all flights suspended, travellers may be forced to reroute through alternative airports such as Nanjing Lukou or Shanghai Hongqiao. This could lead to longer transit times, reduced availability of flights, and possible delays in reaching final destinations during the affected days.

The complete shutdown of operations indicates significant technical changes that cannot be carried out during normal airport operations, even though construction details are still scarce. Improvements may involve critical infrastructure work necessary to maintain long-term functionality and safety. Once completed, these changes are expected to support more stable and efficient airport performance, though short-term disruption will be unavoidable.

Managing this short-term disruption will depend on timely information and clear coordination with airlines. Although the temporary halt may disrupt current travel plans, it reflects a broader initiative aimed at improving long-term operational safety and reliability. Overcoming this short-term challenge will rely on staying informed and maintaining close contact with airline services.
