Road to the sky: a mountain ride for those who like to tickle their nerves
In Europe, there is a tourist attraction that vacationers would not give up even for a million pounds to visit. While many tourists seek rest and relaxation, some prefer to overcome their fear.
The Stairway to Heaven, located in Gosau, Austria, also known as the "Heavenly Staircase," is part of the challenging Ferata route, attracting only the most daring and courageous tourists. The Sun writes about what it looks like and what it is.
Climbers encounter the heavenly staircase when they pass 75% of the route. The "stairway to heaven" is made of steel and has comfortable cables that help climbers climb to the top of Mount Donnerkogel.
Some travel climbers say the stairs are not the most difficult section of the climb, but there is plenty of extreme exposure.
"Although the stairs are only rated B and not considered difficult compared to other parts of the climb, the impact is intense and should not be underestimated," says traveler Jess Wandering.
The wind, which sways the stairs and makes you nervous, has a great effect on your calmness.
On the Internet, you can find many videos showing various climbers climbing the metal stairs on the mountain. Some of the comments are shocked by the terrifying climb.
"Even if you give me ten million dollars, no one can get me there," they wrote under the video.
Some tour operators offer this type of hiking route as a Via Ferrata hiking route for a price of 540 euros (£462) per person.
If you are interested in this type of vacation, there is a two-day tour from Vienna, where you will try basic climbing and practice climbing techniques. After that, you'll head to Salzkammergut, and the next day you'll tickle your nerves on the Heavenly Staircase.
To get there from London, Manchester, and Edinburgh, you can use Ryanair and Wizz Air. A one-way flight ticket will cost from 15 pounds sterling.
It should be noted that another tourist attraction that makes you scared is climbing to the top of Rockefeller Center in New York, which is 70 floors high. The new attraction takes visitors up on a beam above the protective glass on the edge of the building.
Its name is The Beam Experience and it copies the iconic 1932 black-and-white photo of Lunch at the top of a skyscraper.
After a two-minute ride in this Big Apple with the city as a backdrop, you will get a memorable photo. It's worth noting that tourists are held by a beam and a small seat belt.
