In February 2025, European Sleeper introduced a seasonal overnight train linking Brussels with Venice, with the journey running through Germany and Austria before arriving in northern Italy. Running twice weekly throughout February and March, the train makes planned stops in major cities such as Utrecht, Cologne, Munich, Innsbruck, and Verona. This project is the second major international route for the company, which already operates a Brussels to Amsterdam to Berlin to Prague night train since 2023. It highlights European Sleeper’s ambition to expand long-distance rail services across the continent while offering a practical alternative to flying.

The new connection was designed with a specific focus on timing. The timetable coincides with the height of the winter sports season, school breaks, and the famous Venice Carnival, making it appealing to both holidaymakers and culture enthusiasts. Among the onboard features is a dedicated restaurant car, giving travelers the option to enjoy a meal while continuing their overnight journey in comfort. Tickets went on sale starting 1 September 2024, allowing passengers to organize their cross-European trips well ahead of time. Through this service, European Sleeper addresses the growing preference for greener travel choices while at the same time making long cross-border journeys more straightforward and within easier reach for passengers.

“Passengers will be able to board our train from Belgium and the Netherlands, and relax in the comfort of the restaurant car, while the train transports them through Germany and Austria, and across the Alps, ending in the historic cities of Verona and Venice the following day. This marks a new important milestone for European Sleeper and the convenience of night travel across Europe more sustainably."
Chris Engelsman, co-founder of European Sleeper

This route creates an opportunity to combine a variety of experiences and places within one continuous trip. Those heading for the slopes can reach the Austrian Alps without the hassle of long road transfers, while travelers drawn to art and history can arrive in Venice rested after an easy overnight trip. In contrast to short flights, which typically require waiting in lines and navigating time-consuming airport formalities, the night train offers the chance to sleep en route and reach the destination feeling rested and ready to begin the day. When comfort and convenience align, night trains provide more than simple transportation; they evolve into a lasting and memorable aspect of the overall travel experience.

A notable advantage of the Brussels to Venice service lies in how easy it is to access. For visitors traveling from the UK or neighboring countries, reaching Brussels is simple thanks to Eurostar, which makes boarding the night train an easy and logical continuation for extended international trips. This route also reflects the growing appeal of slow travel, a movement that emphasizes deeper, more authentic experiences while motivating passengers to reduce their ecological impact. Connecting multiple nations in a single trip, the train delivers a smooth cross-border journey that resonates with today’s travelers. More and more travelers are drawn not only by the convenience and cultural variety, but also by the opportunity to lessen their ecological footprint while exploring Europe’s diverse regions and long‑standing traditions.

The launch of this seasonal night train represents more than just the introduction of another way to travel. It reflects a new way of exploring Europe, combining eco-friendly travel choices, comfortable overnight rides, and a wide range of cultural encounters. In this context, the journey itself becomes a defining part of the adventure, offering passengers much more than just a transfer from one place to another. Should this service be well received, it may encourage the introduction of further routes and strengthen the position of international night trains as an important element of contemporary tourism and cross‑border travel. The initiative by European Sleeper reflects a growing revival of interest in overnight rail, blending the nostalgic appeal of classic train journeys with modern expectations for comfort, reliability, and seamless links across European destinations.
