Cuba is recognized as the best cultural destination, but it is not popular - survey
Cuba has been recognized as the best cultural destination and the second best place in the Caribbean according to the "Best of the Best" selection of the Tripadvisor travel site. However, it was not included in the list of the most trendy destinations.
The list, compiled by the website, is based on destinations whose hotels, restaurants, and activities have received a large number of excellent reviews and comments from travelers over the past 12 months, CubaNet writes.
According to the review, Cuba is a cultural destination because it "offers incredible opportunities for exchange." It is also emphasized that "Havana is a mixture of old-world architecture and modern culture".
It also mentions Trinidad, a city with Spanish colonial architecture declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and some of the attractions in the area, such as the Valley of the Sugar Mills, "an area that was once the center of the sugar industry in Cuba."
The site, which never once mentions the critical reality of Cubans, their neighborhoods with crumbling buildings and food shortages, re-positions Cuba as one of the favorite destinations for tourists.
Cuba also appears in the list of the best Caribbean countries, although it is ranked second after the Dominican Republic.
It also ranks 18th among gastronomic destinations, according to reviews that are almost entirely based on culinary experiences in private restaurants and Cuban tapas bars.
As TravelWise reported earlier, TUI announced that it discontinued flights to Cuba.
