Berkshire Flyer Returns for Summer 2024: Amtrak's Seasonal Rail Service Resumes
Amtrak, in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) and the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), has announced the return of the Berkshire Flyer, a seasonal passenger rail service between New York City and Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The service is scheduled to operate from Friday, June 21 through Monday, September 2 for Labor Day weekend.
The Berkshire Flyer departs from Moynihan Train Hall in New York City on Friday nights, with return trips leaving Pittsfield Sunday afternoons. This year, for the first time, the service includes an additional Sunday morning train from New York City to Pittsfield, providing more flexibility for weekend getaways.
Transportation Secretary and CEO Monica Tibbits-Nutt expressed excitement about the upcoming season, emphasizing the Berkshire Flyer's role in providing a convenient and relaxing travel option to Western Massachusetts. The service began as a successful pilot in 2022 and has since grown in popularity, with some trains selling out in advance during the first two seasons.
Passengers on the Berkshire Flyer can expect the same amenities found on other Amtrak trains, such as free Wi-Fi, spacious seating, and the ability to travel with small pets. The schedule for the service includes intermediate station stops at key locations in New York State, like Yonkers, Croton-Harmon, and Poughkeepsie. Given the popularity of this seasonal rail service, passengers are encouraged to purchase tickets early to secure their spots for the summer season.
