Avelo Airlines Add Special Flights for Puerto Rican Day Parade on May 18
Avelo Airlines is enhancing its service with the addition of two nonstop flights from Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) in Southern Connecticut to San Juan's Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU). These flights are designed to accommodate travelers attending the first-ever Puerto Rican Day Parade in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Saturday, May 18, providing an affordable and reliable travel option.
The extra flights are scheduled for Thursday, May 16, and Monday, May 20, with one-way fares starting at $100. This expansion aims to support the Puerto Rican community in Connecticut, offering convenient connections for those attending the weekend festivities.
Avelo Airlines' Chairman and CEO, Andrew Levy, expressed his excitement about the new flights, emphasizing the airline's commitment to supporting the Puerto Rican community and JUNTE Boricua, Puerto Rico's most significant tourism initiative in recent years. The initiative seeks to foster greater connections between Puerto Rico and its diaspora in the United States, with the first-ever Puerto Rican Day Parade serving as the event's main attraction.
Joe Rodriguez, President of Puerto Ricans United and the Puerto Rican Festival of New Haven, welcomed the announcement, noting that the additional flights will strengthen the bond between Connecticut's Puerto Rican community and the island. He believes that these new flights will make it easier for many people in Southern Connecticut to travel to San Juan and participate in this historic event.
Avelo Airlines has been operating its regular service to San Juan since November 15, 2023, with flights running twice-weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays using Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft. The airline has flown over 13,000 customers between Southern Connecticut and Puerto Rico, solidifying its role as the primary link for nonstop service to the island.
