Air India and Air New Zealand Partner to Expand Travel Routes
A strategic air travel agreement between Air India and Air New Zealand is poised to reshape the way passengers move between India and New Zealand. Finalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Mumbai, the deal initiates a codeshare covering 16 international routes. Under this arrangement, travellers departing from major Indian cities can now connect through Singapore, Sydney, or Melbourne to reach multiple destinations across New Zealand.
In addition to the immediate connectivity upgrade, both airlines will jointly examine the viability of a direct service linking India and New Zealand by late 2028. While still subject to regulatory and operational approvals, this proposed route reflects the growing demand for more efficient long-haul connections between the two countries. It also signals increased attention to the South Asian travel market, which continues to expand in scale and complexity.
The partnership enhances access to some of New Zealand’s most appealing destinations. Indian travellers will find it easier to reach locations such as Queenstown, a hub for alpine activities, and Wellington, known for its coastal charm and cultural offerings.
