2 ways to make a trip to Luxembourg more environmentally friendly
A traveler who journeyed to Luxembourg was impressed by the free transportation, high quality of life, and availability of recreation. The country was ranked sixth out of 180 positions on the Environmental Performance Index in 2022, which undoubtedly commands respect from its guests.
The tourist who shared her experience with Insider decided to align with the people of Luxembourg and also demonstrate her civic position. She gave two tips on how to make a trip to the country more environmentally friendly.
Transportation
Most trips in Luxembourg are made by public transport for free, and guests and residents travel to and from their final destination by train. A visitor to the country noted that next time she would choose to travel by train instead of an airplane.
She explained: "I could have gone one step further by extending my trip by a few days to get to Luxembourg from Scotland by train. This would involve about three separate train journeys, starting with a high-speed electric train from Edinburgh to London, then a Eurostar train from London to Brussels, and a final train to Luxembourg.
This route would take about 11 hours instead of 5 hours in the air but would allow you to admire incredible scenery and reduce emissions.
Accommodation
The tourist stayed in four- and five-star hotels to experience the luxury of a new country, but she will reconsider these expenses next time.
Experienced travelers advised her to give preference to local boutique hotels, eco-lodges, etc., rather than giving money to corporations.
Visit Luxembourg suggested looking for accommodation within or near Benu Village, an eco-village in Esch-sur-Alzette (about 20 minutes from the city of Luxembourg) that is built using recycled materials.
