Varna Airport is preparing for a major expansion of its route network as Wizz Air plans to station a third aircraft at the Bulgarian Black Sea gateway. The move will allow the airline to introduce five new direct routes and increase the total number of destinations it serves from Varna to 23 during the summer 2026 season, strengthening the airport’s role in regional travel.

New Wizz Air routes launching in June 2026

The new programme will begin in mid-June with several European destinations added to the network:

  • Athens – three weekly flights (Mon, Wed, Fri)
  • Paris Beauvais – twice weekly (Wed, Sun)
  • Gdansk – three weekly flights (Mon, Wed, Fri)
  • Barcelona – three weekly flights (Tue, Thu, Sat)
  • Debrecen – three weekly flights (Tue, Thu, Sat)

The first services to Athens, Paris Beauvais and Gdansk are scheduled for 15 June 2026, while Barcelona and Debrecen will follow a day later on 16 June. A notable addition is the Paris Beauvais route, which will operate twice weekly and adds another link between Varna and the French capital, alongside flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle and Paris Orly operated by other airlines.

“We are extremely excited to base a third aircraft at our Varna base and to add five new routes to our network from the Bulgarian seaside capital. This investment underlines our long-term commitment to Bulgaria and to the development of connectivity in the Black Sea region. The new services will not only provide passengers with more opportunities for affordable travel across Europe, but will also support tourism, the local economy and job creation. We look forward to welcoming even more passengers on board our flights from Varna. Let’s WIZZ, Varna!"
Salvatore Gabriele Imperiale, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air

Barcelona also returns to the airport’s regular summer schedule after several years without a stable service. The last comparable programme on this route was flown in 2021 during pandemic-era travel restrictions. Athens will receive a full regular summer timetable, strengthening connections across the Balkans, while Debrecen joins the network as a completely new destination.

The additional flights place several major European cities within easy reach of the Bulgarian coast. Barcelona opens access to Catalonia’s beaches, architecture and coastal towns, while Athens offers short breaks filled with classical sites and lively neighbourhoods. Gdansk brings travellers to Poland’s Baltic shoreline, and Debrecen connects Varna with eastern Hungary and nearby cultural regions.

This expansion shows how Varna Airport continues to widen its European links ahead of the busy summer season. A third based aircraft allows Wizz Air to increase frequency and add destinations without relying solely on seasonal demand. The additional aircraft and routes give Varna a noticeably wider choice of flights during the summer season.
