Northern Vietnam woke up to chaos on July 21, 2025, as Typhoon Wipha rolled in and threw airline schedules into disarray, grounding 21 Vietjet flights before the day could even take off. At exactly 11:50 local time, Vietjet broke the news about the flight cancellations, making it official for everyone still hoping to board. Most of the affected routes pass through Hai Phong, involving destinations such as Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Da Lat, and Seoul. Both domestic and international flights were included in the disruption.

According to Vietjet’s statement, additional changes to other scheduled flights may occur depending on weather-related developments. The airline has instructed passengers with bookings on this date to check their flight status before travelling to the airport. Travellers can verify details through the "My Booking" section of the Vietjet website, its mobile app, or by contacting staff at the departure airport. No updates have been issued regarding rebooking options or alternative arrangements.

Hai Phong is reported as the most severely impacted area in the ongoing disruption. The following routes have been suspended in both directions:

  • VJ1284
  • VJ1278
  • VJ926

These include busy domestic links between Hai Phong and destinations in central and southern Vietnam. In addition, international services connecting to Seoul through Incheon International Airport have also been affected. All cancellations are due to adverse weather conditions brought on by Typhoon Wipha.

Passengers who had planned to travel on July 21 are urged to consult the latest information provided by Vietjet before travelling to the airport. The airline has not announced a timeline for when normal operations will resume at Hai Phong or other affected airports. Travellers are advised to monitor communication channels closely. At the time of the latest update, no additional flight disruptions outside the published list had been confirmed by the airline.

No general travel warnings or aviation advisories beyond the listed cancellations have been published on the airline’s website as of the morning of July 21. All current updates refer specifically to the routes and schedule changes listed in the official notice. The airline has described the situation as one involving force majeure and emphasised that all actions are being taken in accordance with safety protocols.
