Rail services on the Reggio Calabria to Lamezia Terme line, which runs along the Tyrrhenian coast via Tropea, are suspended today between the stations of Eccellente and Rosarno. The interruption will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., as Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, part of the FS Italiane Group, carries out extraordinary maintenance on the railway infrastructure. The works are intended to safeguard the efficiency and security of this important section of track.

The closure will bring a complete halt to train circulation on the affected stretch during the five-hour window. Passengers traveling this morning should expect schedule changes, possible cancellations, and the need to reorganize their journeys. Updated information is available through:

  • The official RFI website
  • Digital platforms of railway operators
  • Ticket offices
  • Customer service staff

For visitors, the suspension may complicate access to several popular destinations along Calabria’s coast. The sandy beaches of Tropea, often described as among the most scenic in southern Italy, could be harder to reach today. The Capo Vaticano promontory, known for its scenic vistas and popular swimming areas, could be harder to reach for travelers depending on train services. Additionally, the coastal village of Scilla, known for its mythological heritage and the historic fishing quarter of Chianalea, could experience travel delays while the line is closed.

Beyond these well-known attractions, the interruption also affects routes to other distinctive sites in the region. Travelers heading to Pizzo, known for its historic center and seaside charm, may face challenges in reaching the town today. The coastal cliffs near Zambrone, valued for their walking paths and crystal-clear waters, could require more careful planning. Travelers planning to reach the ancient ruins of Locri Epizefiri, a site of notable historical importance, could face difficulties with direct train connections while the maintenance work is underway.

Although the service interruption is short-term, it underscores the need for travelers to review schedules ahead of time and plan for potential delays. For travelers in Calabria today, this brief interruption highlights the importance of ongoing maintenance for the long-term safety and dependability of the rail network. Although travelers may encounter obstacles, the improvements are part of ensuring that the line continues to serve both commuters and visitors effectively. Careful planning will help minimize inconvenience and ensure enjoyable journeys across the region.
