Passengers using the Luton Airport Express are set to see refurbished Class 360 trains, with the first upgraded unit due to enter service next month. East Midlands Railway says the work will bring more modern interiors and practical onboard changes for people travelling between London St Pancras, Luton Airport Parkway and the airport terminal via the Luton DART.

The refurbishment includes a redesigned interior with new 2+2 seating, mixing airline-style seats with table bays. Passengers will also get improved luggage space, power sockets, USB charging points, updated information screens and better accessibility features. The Class 360 upgrade is part of EMR’s wider refurbishment work across its regional and airport-linked services.

What Will Change on Board

The upgraded trains will include:

  • new 2+2 seating
  • more luggage space
  • power and USB points
  • updated passenger information systems
  • refreshed interiors
  • improved accessibility features

EMR says more refurbished Class 360 units will join the fleet over the coming months as the programme continues.

The update matters for passengers flying through London Luton, especially those carrying suitcases, backpacks or work bags. The route links central London with Luton Airport Parkway, where travellers change to the Luton DART for the terminal. The full journey can take around 30 minutes, keeping Luton practical for early flights, city breaks and low-cost routes across Europe.

The main benefit is not speed, because the airport rail link already exists. It is comfortable and useful on a route where many people travel with luggage and tight flight timings. Better seating, charging points and clearer information should make the journey less awkward, particularly for families, business travellers and anyone heading straight to the airport rather than commuting light.
