London Gatwick has restored its direct connection with Qingdao, adding another Chinese city to the airport’s long-haul network. The service is operated by Beijing Capital Airlines and returns after running during the 2025 summer season. Gatwick says the route supports rising demand for travel between the UK and China, while giving the South East another direct option into eastern China.

The Qingdao Service in Brief

  • Route: London Gatwick–Qingdao, on China’s Yellow Sea coast
  • Airline: Beijing Capital Airlines
  • Launch date: Friday 26 June 2026
  • Frequency: once per week
  • Season: 2026 summer season

Qingdao gives Gatwick a direct link to one of eastern China’s main coastal cities and a gateway to Shandong province. Known for its waterfront, historic districts and business links, the city adds another useful China option for summer travel. The route also fits Gatwick’s wider Asia growth, with Air China preparing to launch Chengdu flights on Sunday 5 July.

Qingdao opens up a different side of China beyond the usual first-stop cities. Visitors can explore the seafront around Zhanqiao Pier, the old German-influenced streets, Mount Laoshan and the city’s well-known beer culture. The route also makes Shandong easier to reach, including Jinan, Qufu and coastal areas that are less familiar on standard China itineraries.

A weekly summer flight will not suit every itinerary, so dates will need checking carefully before booking hotels or onward travel. Still, the return of Qingdao gives London and South East England a useful direct link into Shandong. It should help people planning family visits, business travel or a slower coastal China trip without adding another connection.
