Fake Airline Deals Target Travellers Through SMS Scams

Philippine Airlines has warned about fraudulent text messages sent using the airline’s name and advertising fake seat sales or discounted tickets. According to the carrier, scammers are pretending to be airline representatives and contacting people directly by SMS while copying the style of genuine booking messages. Many of these texts use official logos and time-limited offers to push recipients into reacting quickly without checking the source.

The airline said some scams go further by encouraging recipients to download mobile applications presented as booking or promotional tools. Some of these apps can install harmful software that allows access to personal information stored on a device, including banking details. Philippine Airlines stressed that it does not distribute promotions through unofficial downloads or request sensitive details through text messages or unknown platforms.

Official Philippine Airlines Booking Channels

To help customers verify communications, the airline confirmed that legitimate announcements and promotions are shared only through recognised platforms:

  • Official website Philippine Airlines
  • Official Facebook page
  • PAL mobile application
  • Reservations hotline and ticket offices
  • Accredited travel agents
  • WhatsApp and myPAL Webchat

Payments are processed only through authorised links issued within these channels.

Clear guidance also helps people planning trips across the airline’s domestic and international network, particularly during busy booking periods when promotional fares attract strong interest. Popular routes across Southeast Asia, Australia and North America frequently see increased online activity during sales campaigns, creating opportunities for fraud attempts that rely on urgency and unfamiliar booking procedures.

The warning highlights how travel planning increasingly depends on digital communication, where convenience can also expose gaps in awareness. Checking sources before completing payments has become part of booking a trip, much like confirming baggage rules or flight times. Booking only through official airline channels helps avoid payment scams and keeps travel plans secure well before departure.
