Delta Air Lines and Starbucks are set to change their SkyMiles partnership starting next week. The updated system will reward users with SkyMiles based on the amount they reload into their Starbucks accounts, rather than the current system of one mile per dollar spent.

Introduced in 2022, Delta and Starbucks launched a loyalty partnership that allowed customers to earn Delta SkyMiles through their Starbucks purchases. Existing and new customers could link their Starbucks and Delta SkyMiles accounts to earn rewards. Previously, enrolled SkyMiles members earned one mile for every dollar spent at Starbucks, while Starbucks customers could earn double stars at participating stores on days they flew with Delta.

The partnership initially offered an introductory bonus of 500 miles for linking accounts and 150 stars for qualifying purchases. However, from June 12th, the method for earning miles will change. The new system will base miles on Starbucks account reloads, with rates ranging from 0.5 to 2 miles per dollar reloaded. Despite this shift, Delta passengers will still enjoy complimentary coffee on the day of their flight.

This update means that the more users reload their Starbucks accounts, the more SkyMiles they will earn. These miles can be redeemed for award flights, upgrades, and other Delta amenities. The change aims to enhance the benefits for both frequent coffee drinkers and Delta travelers.

Delta has also formed partnerships with other brands to expand its loyalty program. For example, Delta's collaboration with Lyft allows SkyMiles members to earn one mile per dollar spent on Lyft rides in the US and two miles per dollar on rides to US airports. New Lyft users receive a discount on their first two rides, and Delta SkyMiles platinum cardholders get up to $120 in rideshare credits annually.

Delta and Starbucks' revised partnership reflects the airlines' broader strategy to offer valuable incentives to their customers. By adapting the SkyMiles program, Delta continues to strengthen its appeal to frequent flyers and coffee lovers alike.
