Trying to escape the cold weather and depressive moods, you start planning your next trip abroad. One of the most important things to do when preparing for a trip is to pack your suitcase.

Since #handluggage on TikTok has 37.6 million views, it's safe to say that many people are eager to learn all the tips on how to fit everything they need in their carry-on luggage. And while some airlines still allow passengers to store a small suitcase in overhead lockers for free, the days when this was commonplace are unfortunately behind us, says HuffPost.

In fact, if you're flying with one of the low-cost airlines, you're likely to be allowed to bring a bag for free only if it can fit under the seat in front of you.

So, whether you're trying to fit two weeks' worth of clothes into a small suitcase in the cabin or ensuring everything you need for a long weekend city break will fit in a bag under your seat, here are the compact packing tips you need to know.

Take a backpack

If you're looking for a way to pack everything you need in a bag that fits under your seat, a backpack is a great choice.

Take laundry detergent with you

If you're worried about running out of clothes, take laundry detergent with you on the road before you pay to pack your suitcase. Simply dissolve one or two teaspoons of this gel in a bowl of hot or cold water, clean your clothes, rinse off the soap, and hang them up to dry.

Put your jewelry in an organizer

This compact case with six ring rolls, three necklace hooks, four divided compartments, an elastic pocket, and a zippered pocket is perfect for transporting your favorite jewelry and ensures that it doesn't get tangled.

Fold your clothes in compression boxes

These boxes will keep your clothes tightly and compactly folded and ensure that you make the most of all the space in your suitcase or bag.

Take vacuum bags

These ingenious bags reduce the volume by 80%. Simply spread the bag out on a flat surface and put your items in it, slide the zipper back and forth until the bag is completely closed, and slowly twist it from the zipper to the bottom to fully compress it.

Put cosmetics in a transparent plastic bag

Remember that even if you check your suitcase in the overhead lockers, you still have to put your cosmetics in a transparent bag before going through security. So, bring some of them with you in advance.

Pour lotions and potions into silicone sachets

Again, you won't be able to bring bottles larger than 100 ml, so prepare by transferring your favorite products into these handy clear sachets and label them so you can easily identify them.

Get a pill organizer:

Medication boxes can be very clumsy, so pour the exact amount of pills you'll need on the go into this smart case. Don't forget to also put in painkillers if you have a few late nights ahead of you.

Use a sleeping bag

Use a sleeping bag sack as an alternative to compression cases. For example, if a medium-sized bag can hold 17 liters of belongings, it reduces to 8.3 liters when fully compressed.

Choose a Kindle that takes up little space

While nothing beats the feel of a fresh paperback, Kindle is much more convenient if you're the type of person who reads a book a day on vacation. Plus, a single charge lasts for several weeks, so you don't even have to find a place for the charging cable.
