Tourist boom in Azerbaijan: the country announced a significant increase in travelers in January 2024
According to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, in January 2024, the number of tourists from the European Union increased by 1.5 times compared to January 2023. Similarly, the number of visitors from CIS countries increased by 25.1 percent.
As reported by Azernews, there were 4.7 thousand travelers from the EU, 35.1 thousand from the Persian Gulf, and 61.3 thousand from the CIS. Overall, in January 2024, Azerbaijan welcomed 165.8 thousand foreign visitors from 152 countries, representing a 39.3% increase compared to the same period last year.
Among the visitors, 27.5% were citizens of the Russian Federation, 19.8% were from Turkey, 9.7% from Iran, 6.1% from India, and 4.9% from Georgia.
Significant increases were noted in the number of tourists from China (3.9 times), Kyrgyzstan (3.4 times), Bahrain (2.7 times), Saudi Arabia (2.7 times), India (2.5 times), Oman (2.4 times), Uzbekistan (2.4 times), Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan (2.3 times).
Regarding transportation, 67.5% of foreign visitors arrived in Azerbaijan by air, 31.1% by rail and road, and 1.4% by sea.
Additionally, gender statistics in tourism may be of interest. 74.2% of visitors to Azerbaijan were men, while 25.8% were women.
