The case against Alaska Airlines and Boeing: passengers have filed a lawsuit for 1 billion dollars
Alaska Airlines and Boeing Corporation have been sued by three passengers of Flight 1282. The victims are demanding compensation in the amount of $1 billion after a terrible incident that happened to them during the flight.
It is noted that on January 5, 2024, the Alaska Airlines plane was supposed to fly to Ontario, California. However, the plane returned to Portland to make an emergency landing due to a door panel that was torn off in the middle of the flight, KOAA News5 reported.
It was reported that after the incident, the airline offered the passengers $1,500 each and a refund for the cost of their tickets. According to the victims' lawyer, Jonathan Johnson, Kyle Rinker, Amanda Strickland, and Kevin Kwok were not sure they would survive the flight. He added that in this case, his clients deserve much more, and that the $1 billion settlement is intended to draw the company's attention.
"To change their behavior, because their market capitalization, the numbers they operate with are very large, each plane is worth hundreds of millions of dollars, so to get Boeing's attention, you have to ask for that kind of figure," Johnson said.
In addition, according to federal authorities, a preliminary investigation found that the bolts that were supposed to hold the panel in place were missing.
Earlier, TravelWise reported that Alaska Airlines had a problem with a Boeing 737 Max aircraft.
