Thailand spots mysterious green light in the sky, which was confused with the Aurora Borealis
A green light in the sky at night was spotted over the Keng Krachan National Park in Phetchaburi province, Thailand. Since the Aurora Borealis was visible from many parts of the world at the time, witnesses mistakenly thought they were seeing an atmospheric optical phenomenon.
However, the country's authorities denied this claim. According to the Bangkok Post, the photos of the colored sky were posted on Kao Panoentung's Facebook page, where they aroused increased interest.
Many netizens assumed that the witnesses had seen the Aurora. People who were in the park at the time said they saw the glow at sunset, between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.
The mysterious phenomenon was observed by about 200 witnesses. The green light disappeared when the moon rose.
Authorities dismissed online speculation, saying that Thailand is too far from the poles and therefore the aurora borealis would not have been visible in the sky over the country.
What hundreds of people saw was allegedly the result of the reflection of green light from the clouds radiating from the earth's surface.
As you know, squid fishermen in the Gulf of Thailand traditionally use green light to lure their prey there. It was this light that could be cast in the clouds.
