Paris Orly Runway Closure to Affect 3,000 Flights

Paris-Orly Airport has closed Runway 4 for a four-month renovation, forcing airlines to cut services or move some flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle. Around 3,000 flights are expected to be cancelled or diverted during the works, affecting passengers through late summer and autumn. Paris Aéroport is advising anyone booked through Orly to check their airline and confirm both the flight status and airport before travelling.

The project covers 3,350 metres of Runway 4 and its access roads, alongside work on seven taxiways and a junction used for aircraft movements. More than 40 kilometres of ground lighting and drainage networks will also be installed. easyJet has already confirmed cancellations during part of the closure period, with affected customers offered alternative flights as schedules are adjusted around the reduced capacity at Orly.

A move to Charles de Gaulle still gets passengers to Paris, but it can substantially change the rest of the journey. Orly and CDG sit on different sides of the capital, so airport transfers, hotels, car hire and onward rail connections may need to be rearranged. Anyone connecting through Paris should check the airport code carefully, particularly if separate tickets were booked around an arrival or departure at Orly.

Anyone flying through Orly over the next few months should keep checking their booking, even if the flight was confirmed weeks ago. Airlines may still move services to Charles de Gaulle, change departure times or cancel flights as schedules are adjusted around the runway closure. It is also worth avoiding non-refundable airport transfers or hotels until the operating airport is confirmed, especially for trips later in the autumn.
