New Berlin Lapland Flight Opens Direct Access to Finland’s Arctic Adventures
Beginning on January 31, 2026, Eurowings will introduce a nonstop winter route between Berlin and Kittilä in Finnish Lapland. The service will operate once a week on Saturdays and continue through March 21, 2026. This marks the first direct air connection between Berlin and Kittilä, offering a new seasonal travel option for those heading to the Arctic region of Finland.
The route will be served by an Airbus A320 and forms part of Eurowings’ broader plan to expand seasonal connections between Germany and northern Finland. In addition to Kittilä, the airline will maintain winter flights to other Finnish destinations such as Ivalo, Rovaniemi, Kuusamo and Helsinki. These flights aim to meet the growing interest among German travelers in exploring Lapland’s winter offerings.
One of the most accessible attractions near Kittilä is the Levi ski resort, located just 15 kilometers from the airport. It is one of Finland’s most popular winter destinations, known for its well-maintained slopes, cross-country skiing trails and wide range of activities for both beginners and experienced skiers. The area also offers snowshoeing, spa facilities and family-friendly entertainment during the long polar nights.
Another major draw is the opportunity to witness the Northern Lights, which are regularly visible in this part of Lapland between late autumn and early spring. Exploring Sámi heritage in surrounding villages is another option for travelers, along with taking part in reindeer sled rides, husky tours, and snowmobile journeys. The proximity of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park provides additional options for those seeking untouched Arctic nature.
The decision by Eurowings to open this route reflects a shift in winter travel habits. As popular alpine resorts grow crowded and familiar, Arctic Finland presents travelers with a more tranquil and distinctive option. The new direct connection between Berlin and Kittilä reduces travel time and reflects a rising interest in winter trips focused on natural landscapes, solitude, and cultural experiences.
