easyJet Adds Planes and Expands Direct Flights from Birmingham

easyJet has decided to grow its activity at Birmingham Airport by keeping two Airbus A320 planes stationed there full-time. The first of these aircraft entered service in early May, with the second expected to begin operations in June. The airline launched its base at the airport in March 2024. Since then, the number of destinations served from Birmingham has increased from 15 to 34, in line with preparations for the summer season.
The latest changes include the introduction of new direct flights from Birmingham to several cities in Europe. Newly added flights now take off from Birmingham to places like Bordeaux in France and Gran Canaria in Spain. Flights to Gibraltar are expected to start running from the beginning of June. Looking at the current flight timetable, it seems that no other airline flies directly between Birmingham and Gibraltar.
easyJet is a firm favourite with our customers offering choice and convenience on over 40 popular routes. The demand for flights from Birmingham Airport is shown in the arrival of this fourth aircraft and its soon to arrive fifth based aircraft, testament to its growth since its base launch in March 2024.
With more aircraft based at the airport, the airline has adjusted its schedule to accommodate higher demand during the summer period. The added capacity enables more frequent flights on selected routes. This approach is consistent with broader trends at regional airports in the United Kingdom, where operators are increasing the number of direct international services.
Recent changes to Birmingham's flight schedule include cities with key roles in their regions. Naples in southern Italy connects travellers to sites like Pompeii and coastal routes around the Bay of Naples. Faro in southern Portugal offers access to the Algarve’s smaller towns and nature spots. Barcelona in Spain serves as a major transport and cultural centre. These additions highlight a shift toward destinations with both local importance and strong links to wider travel networks.

The developments at Birmingham Airport reflect an ongoing shift in air connectivity across central England. Thanks to the updated route list, passengers can now fly straight to places that used to require switching planes along the way. These changes are part of a larger pattern of route adjustments across the UK aviation sector ahead of the peak travel season.
