Why isn't Ayers Rock Airport in Australia called Uluru Airport

Travellers who decide to book a trip to Australia, and even locals, wonder why Ayers Rock Airport isn't called Uluru Airport, after the orange-brown mountain range it's located near.

As you can see, Ayers Rock is the official name of the airport. Usually, they are named after nearby major cities or landmarks.

However, as a sign of respect for the local culture, it was decided to leave the name "Uluru" only for the most famous Australian monolith. It looks so unique that they wanted to reflect this in the country's own names.

For example, the small town near the monolith was named Yulara, so as not to be confused in the names. And the airport was named after the village where tourists immediately go - Ayers Rock Resort. It is here that travellers look for accommodation and dining options, after which they go to see the orange miracle of nature.
