Tourism spending in Wrexham is growing year on year. The year 2022 records the strongest jump to date.

That's according to STEAM data from Global Tourism Solutions, a national agency that collects data for most local authority areas across the UK. Last year, for example, Wrexham received just over £151 million from visitor spending. That's a 51 percent increase from 2021, according to Wrexham.com

Visitor numbers were also up 33 percent on last year, with 1.9 million day visitors and a further 430,000 people staying more than one night. That's a 98 percent increase from 2021.‍‍

Despite recruitment challenges in the hospitality sector, local tourism retained about 1,700 full-time positions in 2022. And that's a 36 percent increase over the previous year.

"Over the last 18 months or so we have seen a marked increase in local and international visitors, partly due to the publicity given to our area through the success of the soccer club, the interest generated through last year's UK City of Culture bid, our ongoing events program and the daily hard work and enthusiasm of our hospitality and events industry representatives in showcasing Wrexham, ‍- Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy at Wrexham County Borough Council, stated.
