Hyatt announced the opening of Thompson Rome on October 27, 2026, adding 69 rooms and suites to the accommodation available in the Italian capital’s historic centre. The property occupies a converted 1940s building on Via delle Botteghe Oscure and is owned and operated by AG Group s.r.l. and Rossifin Group. Its opening marks the arrival of the Thompson Hotels brand in Italy, with art and dining central to its offering.

The renovation preserved the building’s marble staircase and brought two previously concealed works by Italian artist Gio Pomodoro back into view: a sculptural wall and an inlaid floor that had remained hidden for decades. Beyond these restored features, artworks displayed in guestrooms and shared spaces connect the property with Rome’s artistic traditions, while a planned rotating residency will introduce exhibitions, discussions and other activities involving the city’s contemporary creative community.

Rooms, Dining and Nearby Sights

Accommodation includes 19 suites, with private patios, balconies or terraces available in selected categories. The largest option, the Thompson Suite, measures 104 square metres and includes an 80-square-metre terrace. Guests also have three places to eat and drink: LYVE Restaurant, where chef Fabio Fioravanti prepares Mediterranean dishes with an emphasis on seafood; LYVE Rooftop, serving cocktails and sharing plates; and the Lobby Lounge, offering coffee, light food and drinks throughout the day.

Piazza Venezia is close to the hotel, while the Roman Forum, Pantheon and Colosseum are within walking distance. These sites give visitors access to different aspects of Rome’s history, from the remains of its ancient political centre to its monumental architecture. Their proximity makes it possible to organise sightseeing around walks from the property, with opportunities to return between visits rather than remain out for the entire day.

The opening adds another option for visitors planning a stay around Rome’s central sights. Its practical appeal will depend on individual priorities: some guests may value outdoor space, while others will focus on room rates or the convenience of eating on site. Comparing the available room categories will be particularly useful, since terraces and patios are limited to certain accommodation types and may substantially shape the experience of staying there.
