Spain’s Giant Beach Without a Sea Finally Breaks Ground
A vast white-sand beach is coming to the outskirts of Madrid, despite being nowhere near the Spanish coast. Alovera Beach, a €29 million-plus leisure project in Guadalajara province, is expected to open in summer 2028. Its planned lagoon will offer swimming and watersports alongside family facilities and a separate beach club aimed at adults, giving visitors an alternative to travelling hundreds of kilometres for a beach day.
The attraction is intended to offer more than swimming, with plans for kayaking, paddleboarding, aqua fitness and a separate beach club aimed at adults, alongside family areas and places to eat. Developers formally started the construction process on 21 October 2026, with completion targeted for March 2028. The proposed summer opening is still nearly two years away, and the exact opening date and ticket prices have not been announced.

Drivers will be able to approach Alovera via the A-2 or R-2, while existing ALSA buses already link the town with Madrid, including a stop at Canillejas for Metro connections. Another option is a Cercanías C-2 or C-8 train to Azuqueca de Henares followed by local transport. Neither a bus stop at the future entrance nor dedicated shuttle services have been confirmed.
The attraction looks most useful as a day trip for families, groups and couples already staying around Madrid, rather than a reason to book an entire holiday. Exact opening dates, entrance fees, activity charges and last-mile transport to the gates remain unconfirmed. Given previous delays, check the project's official site and Alovera council's bus timetables before paying for travel or accommodation specifically to visit.
