One of the world's most prominent architectural landmarks, the Roman Colosseum, is radically changing the way it sells tickets to its visitors. From now on, visitors will be able to buy tickets online through a call center and at two physical ticket offices.

To combat the widespread phenomenon of ticket scams, the administration has taken an unusual step. From now on, the sale of personalized tickets will be introduced, according to the AGI publication.

In addition, the total number of ticket offices at the entrance to the Colosseum will be increased to 6. Ticket offices will also be opened to receive tickets ordered online on the website, intended for individual visitors without intermediaries.

"The goal is to combat the phenomenon of advertising and other speculative practices regarding the entrance fee to the archaeological park," the administration of the famous historical site says. It is emphasized that a personalized ticket can be purchased on the official website, through the call center, and at the physical ticket office at the entrance.

It is noted that the percentage of shares allocated to non-physical ticketing channels has been changed to ensure greater availability at the box office. Thus, from now on, 25% of the total number of tickets will be allocated to the B2B platform for tour operators; and 55% of the total amount will be allocated to the B2C platform or for individual visitors.

In addition, the operating mode of certain parts of the Colosseum Park is also changing. Starting November 1, the Flavian Amphitheater will be open from 8:30 a.m. (instead of 9 a.m.) to ensure that it will be open throughout the winter season. It has also been confirmed that the special "Month in the Colosseum" tours will continue until the end of the year from 18:00 to 22:00.

"I thank Alfonsina Russo, Director of the Colosseum Archaeological Park, and Massimo Osanna, Director General of the Museums, for the speed with which they have managed to determine the introduction of a nominal ticket, a central measure to free one of the symbols of our heritage from intrusive advertising," said Gennaro Sangiuliano, Minister of Culture of Italy.

According to him, museum workers inherited a confusing situation and a dispute over ticket sales that lasted for some time, but the problem was quickly resolved. "We can say that thanks to this event and the expansion of the offer that took place in 2023, a new era for the Colosseum Archaeological Park is happening now," Sanguliano added.
