Emirates has initiated a significant step towards sustainable aviation by activating its agreement with Neste to supply Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, marking a pivotal move in the airline industry's transition to greener alternatives. This collaboration, set to span throughout 2024, aims to infuse the airport's fuelling system with over 2 million gallons of SAF, highlighting a major commitment to environmental stewardship.

The deal between Emirates and Neste, a frontrunner in renewable solutions, is a testament to the airline's ambitious sustainability agenda. It underscores a strategic move to not only reduce carbon emissions but also pioneer a path for the aviation sector's wider adoption of SAF. This initiative is particularly noteworthy as it represents one of the largest SAF purchases by Emirates, reflecting the airline's proactive approach in addressing the pressing issue of climate change.

Adel Al Redha, Emirates' Deputy President and Chief Operations Officer, emphasized the importance of such partnerships in achieving the airline's emission reduction goals. The collaboration with Neste, especially at a significant hub like Amsterdam, sets a blueprint for future endeavors in expanding SAF's accessibility and use across Emirates' global network. This commitment to sustainability is further illustrated by Emirates' plans to introduce SAF at Singapore Changi Airport, signaling a broader, long-term vision for eco-friendly aviation.

The use of SAF, capable of reducing life-cycle carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional jet fuel, marks a critical step forward. It seamlessly integrates with existing aircraft and airport infrastructure, offering a pragmatic and effective solution to one of the industry's most challenging issues. Emirates' historical engagement with SAF, including its first SAF-powered flight in 2017 and subsequent integration at Dubai Airport, alongside participation in the Solent Cluster for SAF production in the UK, exemplifies the airline's leadership in embracing renewable fuels.
