Hilton has introduced its lifestyle brand Canopy to South Africa with the opening of a 154-room hotel in Cape Town’s Longkloof district. Officially launched in June 2025, the hotel is set within the City Bowl area, close to both Table Mountain and the city centre. Located in a restored heritage building, the property is designed to reflect the historical and creative character of the neighbourhood while accommodating modern travellers.

Longkloof, once a lesser-known part of Cape Town’s centre, has evolved into a vibrant urban hub. This formerly industrial area now features:

  • Co-working spaces popular with startups and freelancers
  • Modern residential developments integrated with historic architecture
  • Creative studios and small businesses focused on design and media

The arrival of the hotel marks Longkloof’s development as a district designed to accommodate both corporate guests and holidaymakers. The changes provide travellers with more accommodation options and access to local facilities within walking distance of key city sites.

Guests staying in the area will find several attractions within a short walk from the hotel. Kloof Street is home to a range of local restaurants, independent shops, and casual cafes popular with both residents and visitors. De Waal Park, one of the city’s green spaces, provides a quiet setting for walks beneath mature trees. Close by, the Company’s Garden provides a peaceful place for a walk, with native plants, fountains, and shaded seating in the heart of the historic city.

Travellers interested in local food, weekend activities and design culture will also find plenty nearby. The Oranjezicht City Farm Market, held weekly near the coast, is known for its fresh produce and open-air food stalls. Bree Street offers a variety of concept stores where guests can taste regional wines and experience the city’s developing coffee scene. A short ride away, the Neighbourgoods Market at the Old Biscuit Mill offers fashion, crafts and gourmet street food in a lively industrial courtyard.

The opening of Canopy by Hilton adds a new option for travellers looking to explore Cape Town on foot or by bike with less reliance on transport. The hotel is located in a neighbourhood where old meets new, reflecting a wider change in city tourism that values walkable areas, varied dining, and authentic local experiences for travelers on both short visits and extended stays.
