In early 2023, 29-year-old Conor Walker stole £16,000 from his employer in Belfast, Northern Ireland. As explained in court, the motive for the crime was substantial wage arrears.

Now the man faces up to five months in prison. This was reported by Belfast Live.

The Belfast Magistrates' Court held a hearing on the case. They found out that on January 31, Walker came to the office located in the Victoria Square shopping center and began to prepare for the working day.

His duties included storing cash delivered by a security courier, setting up currency exchange points, and accessing the company's safe. After some time, other employees realized that a significant amount of money was missing from the safe.

The cash had been taken from the safe, the currency exchange office, and the travel bags used by customers to pay. The lawyer said the missing money included more than $8,400, 6,000 euros, and 2,100 pounds sterling.

"He did not return to his place of work. He only appeared at the Musgrave police station on March 29," the prosecutor said.

During the interrogation, he confessed to the crime. Conor also apologized for his actions and said that he was forced to steal "because of his personal debt."

District Judge Stephen Keown sentenced him to five months in custody.

Walker was released on bail pending an appeal against his sentence.
