The South Devon Railway invites tourists to delicious entertainment
The southern part of the English county of Devon has announced two new opportunities for users of local railway services. The Freight Train Experience will take passengers on a return trip through the beautiful Devonshire countryside in carriages that are usually used only for freight service.
It is noted that the carriage has an open veranda with a picturesque view of the landscape and the railway. Moreover, one part of the trip will take place at the back of the train, and the return trip will be directly behind the locomotive, according to DevonLive.
According to the plans of the local railway, the Freight Train Experience will be hauled by either a Great Western Railway steam locomotive or a British Railways diesel locomotive. The good news for visitors is that the ticket also includes unlimited travel on other South Devon Railway passenger routes throughout the day.
At the same time, it is noted that there are certain restrictions for visitors. Due to the occasional strong vibrations, this route is not recommended for small children and people with poor health. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Another pleasant surprise is lunch at the Plowman's House. The vintage setting of a 1950s dining car will serve "the best homemade treats and local products." The culinary journey will end with a freshly prepared dessert.
It is specified that the train journey takes about two hours and offers the opportunity to enjoy delicious Devonian delicacies while taking in the view. The train departs from Buckfastleigh at 12:10. Tickets for the South Devon Limited dining car cost £48 per person.
It is also added that a delicious Plowman's lunch is available on selected Sundays during April, July, and August. This is a new offer this year. Additionally, in 2024 there will be a new menu in a new format.
