On May 13, a ground worker for TransNusa Airlines was hospitalized after falling from an Airbus A320 at Jakarta Soekarno–Hatta International Airport (CGK). The incident occurred when the boarding stairs were removed prematurely while the aircraft door was still open.

The ground crew member was finalizing departure paperwork with the crew when the mishap occurred. The individual sustained broken bones and is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Miscommunication between the flight coordinator and the ground handling company, Jasa Angkasa Semesta (JAS), led to the incident. The event was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media, highlighting the need for stringent safety procedures and better communication among ground staff.

Following the incident, the flight was delayed by 50 minutes. Typically, safety protocols mandate that boarding stairs should never be removed while the aircraft door is open to prevent such accidents. Despite attempts to reach JAS for a comment, no response has been received yet.

TransNusa, which was relaunched as a low-cost carrier in 2022 after being sold to China Aircraft Leasing Group (CALC), operates several domestic and international routes. The aircraft involved in the incident, an A320-200, was originally operated by Air Berlin and later transferred to Chengdu Airlines before joining the TransNusa fleet.

TransNusa serves destinations such as Denpasar, Guangzhou, Johor Bahru, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Yogyakarta from its base in Jakarta. The airline aims to maintain high safety standards while offering affordable travel options to its passengers.

This incident underscores the critical importance of proper coordination between ground and air crews to ensure passenger and crew safety. As TransNusa continues to expand, addressing these safety concerns will be crucial to maintaining its reputation and operational efficiency.
