The situation at the airport: "A woman demanded my son's seat - I refused to give it to her"
No matter how merry the holidays are, it is not always easy to get to your family during this period. Being in a busy airport, especially early in the morning, is not always a pleasant and calming place. But this is not a reason to forget about your manners.
One of the parents recalled an incident that happened to them when they were sitting with their two-year-old son waiting for the plane. "A woman approached the family and made an unexpected request," writes the Mirror.
"The woman, who was probably in her 50s or 60s, came up and asked to sit him on her lap so she could take a seat," the father explained on Reddit. "I just said: "It's okay, he's happy where he is." She got mad and then just stood there sighing until the man gave her his seat."
Many people in the comments defended the parents, asking why the customers specifically asked them if they would share a seat.
"Why target a two-year-old and her parents, flying is stressful for children. She could have asked someone else, 20-30 other people who probably would have given up their seat and not suffered so much," one person wrote in the comments. – "Especially if you say no, she could have asked someone else instead of huffing and puffing ungratefully."
Another person noted that it's not smart to ask someone at the airport if you can take their seat, as they may have an invisible disability or a reason they need to sit down that you may not realize.
A third commenter noted how difficult it can be to calm a small child at the airport, and that anything that risks upsetting that delicate balance is probably unwise.
"Your two-year-old was happy – literally no one wants that to change in a crowded airport," he said.
Some people argued that it would be easier for everyone if parents just put the child on their lap.
"You could easily put your son on your lap to help an older person who needed to sit down. He's only two years old, and he would have found a place anyway, he wouldn't have been sitting far away from you or on the floor. You didn't have to do it, but it's one of those cases where it didn't take much effort to do a good deed," one commenter said.
