The happiest country in the world is named and it is not Finland: In what place is UK in the ranking
A recent study, Mental State of the World Report, found that a country's economic status does not necessarily mean that its people are perfectly happy. According to the analysis, the Dominican Republic has become the happiest country in the world, while the United Kingdom is one of the unhappiest.
Finland, which for many years has topped the World Happiness Report, does not even appear in the top ten of the new ranking, Express writes. The study covered people in 71 countries.
The respondents were interviewed focusing on "a person's ability to cope with the normal stresses and adversities of life." The UK ranked almost last, ahead of only Uzbekistan.
Residents of countries at war, such as Yemen and Ukraine, showed better mental wellbeing than the British.
The authors of the study concluded that "greater prosperity and economic development do not necessarily lead to better mental well-being."
The Dominican Republic, known for its picturesque beaches and resorts, was ranked first. Sri Lanka and Tanzania were ranked second and third, respectively.
Among European countries, Italy showed the highest result, taking 11th place. Ireland and Australia were in the bottom 10, along with the United Kingdom.
