Southwest Airlines flight interrupted after the plane's engine caught fire in flight
On March 18, 2024, Southwest Airlines flight WN3007, en route from San Jose del Cabo Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) to Houston William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) in the United States, was interrupted. The plane was forced to make an emergency landing at the point of departure.
During the climb, the crew of the Boeing 737-800 detected signs of a malfunction in one of the engines, The Aviation Herald reports. No injuries were reported.
It is reported that the engine failed with an explosion sound, after which the crew saw streaks of flames.
This disturbing incident forced the pilots to immediately stop climbing and turn the plane toward San Jose del Cabo Airport, notifying controllers.
The plane returned to the runway approximately 27 minutes after takeoff. No injuries were reported, so it is likely that all passengers and crew safely disembarked.
The flight was canceled, and the plane, according to Flightradar24.com, was grounded at SJD airport for five days. It has now been returned to service.
As previously reported by TravelWise, in early March, a China Southern Airlines flight was delayed due to a passenger who threw coins into the plane's engine.
