Shanghai airports experienced a historic surge in traffic
During the Chinese Spring Festival Chunyun, Shanghai airports experienced a historic surge in traffic, with 395,000 passengers passing through in one day.
From February 6 to February 17, 2024, during the peak period of the Chinese Spring Festival, Shanghai Pudong and Hongqiao International Airports recorded a significant influx of travelers, as reported by Travel And Tour World.
A total of 4.37 million passengers were welcomed, marking an 80.3% increase year-on-year. There were 27,000 flights at both airports, representing a 38.4% increase year-on-year, including 18,000 at Pudong and 9,000 at Hongqiao.
February 15, the 6th day of the Chinese New Year, saw the highest inbound and outbound passenger traffic, reaching 395,000 passengers. Of these, 243,000 passengers were accommodated at Pudong and 152,000 at Hongqiao.
These figures indicate the highest records for Chinese Spring Festival travel numbers in recent years, with Hongqiao International Airport also recording its largest single-day passenger volume since its inception.
