On April 25, 1964, Iberia launched its inaugural flight between Madrid and Brussels aboard a Carvair, a unique aircraft known for its ability to transport cars and passengers. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of this historic route, Iberia celebrated with special treats for travelers flying between the Spanish and Belgian capitals.

To honor the 60-year anniversary, Iberia offered its passengers a unique biscuit made with Belgian chocolate and Madrid's violet candies. This sweet treat combined two iconic ingredients from the respective cities, symbolizing the connection between Madrid and Brussels. This thoughtful gesture not only marked the route's legacy but also provided a delicious way for travelers to be part of the celebration.

Iberia's first flight on this route carried 22 passengers, but the airline has significantly expanded its capacity and frequency since then. Today, Iberia operates four daily flights between Madrid and Brussels, each accommodating up to 180 passengers. This growth demonstrates the enduring popularity of the route and Iberia's commitment to providing convenient and comfortable travel experiences.

Carmen Giraud, Iberia's sales director for Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, expressed pride in reaching this milestone, highlighting how Iberia has evolved over six decades. She noted that the airline now transports nearly 1,500 passengers daily on this route, offering connections from Madrid to 142 destinations worldwide.

As Iberia continues to evolve, the celebration of this significant anniversary reminds us of the enduring connections that air travel fosters between cities and cultures, with a touch of sweetness along the way.
